Common questions and more information
Question

Weather

Answer

The weather in Paris for the last week of October is typically cool and crisp, chilly at night. While the city rarely sees temperatures below 48 degrees Fahrenheit, it also doesn't get much warmer than 61 degrees, and the average temperature in October is just 51 degrees throughout the month. It rains an average of only 2.2 inches in Paris in the whole month of October (*laughs in New Orleans*), but it is spread out over 10+ days. While not a perfect comparison, think Pacific Northwest weather, like Seattle - a little drizzly but not too bad, a little crisp and chilly but not COLD cold.

Question

Kids

Answer

Our wedding activities will be adults only. Whether you prefer leaving the kids at home entirely for the trip, bringing an in-law along for a family vacation, or arranging childcare service at your hotel, we thank you for finding a sitter during these time periods!

Question

What if I can't make it to Paris

Answer

No worries! We fully expect that many, if not most, of our invited guests will not be able to swing the logistics involved in what is essentially a trans-Atlantic dinner party. We are not offended, and we love you exactly the same amount as before you RSVP'd no.

Question

Dress Code

Answer

The dress code for the champagne cruise is French casual, which is essentially dressy casual. You are quite welcome to wear a dress or jacket (the groom will be in a suit and the bride is always overdressed, so fear not on overshooting), but jeans and a sweater is just fine, especially as it will likely be chilly on the boat. FYI, the French can spot tourists immediately (see the gallery tab for a laugh^), but clean, smart casual is in general the minimum here. Please, no ripped jeans or shorts, casual tank tops, or workout clothing. The locals may actually faint at a flip flop. The dress code for the ceremony and reception is festive formal, creative black tie encouraged. For gentlemen, a tuxedo is never out of style. However if you do not own one (or for our New Orleans guests, if wearing your Mardi Gras ball version in October feels sacrilegious), we understand the logistical nightmare of renting one upon your arrival in a foreign country, so a dark suit is just fine. What does festive mean? Think velvet, jewel colored jackets, patterns, emerald suiting, unique accessories - fun. For ladies, long dresses, sophisticated separates (your own tuxedo would be iconic), evening gowns, and formal cocktail dresses are all perfect. Feathers, cloaks, sparkles, gloves, plunging necklines, sky high slits, festive red - all also welcome. Honestly, as long as you don't turn up in a white gown, we're good. Paris is known for its extravagance. You cannot be overdressed here. Come to impress, you gorgeous peacock.

Question

You Do Realize Your Wedding Date is Halloween

Answer

Indeed. Boo. The couple kindly request that you do not take it to literal theme. Think less Party City, more 1000-year-old gothic gargoyles of Notre Dame.
