We first met in high school gym class during sophomore year & bonded over our mutual love for lacrosse. We started off as friends, rooting for each other during recruitment to play in college. Fast forward to junior year where Eli asked Sarah to the "after prom party". We sat around a fire, eating pizza and having Eli count her bobby pins. A week later, on May 19th, 2012 we went on our first date, driving the seacoast of NH & watching the Bruins. Shortly after, we agreed to our pact (funny story!) and started dating on June 1st, 2012. We were then met with the tough decision of college. Eli was selected to play lacrosse at Clark University & Sarah decided to go to Stonehill College. Although it was hard, we made the long-distance work. After Eli’s sophomore year, he transferred to UNH, moving further away from Sarah, and he was back to playing lacrosse for Sarah’s dad (he coached Eli in high school!). Eli supported Sarah as she stressed over getting into a Physician Assistant graduate program – luckily, she got accepted to MCPHS University in NH, so the long distance was over after 4 years apart! Clinical rotations brought another fun challenge for us with the different schedules / locations every 5 weeks – great opportunity for Eli to plan the proposal! Celebrating rotations was the perfect excuse for Eli to plan a night out in Portsmouth, NH & to not make Sarah suspicious. After finishing up a surgery rotation, Sarah was looking forward to a nice dinner out – little did she know what Eli had in store. One of our very first dates was to Prescott Park in Portsmouth and since then, we always will make a point to walk to the water to look at the tugboats. An important part to this story is how abnormally cold it was on that October 4th, 2019 night. Sarah was trying to cut down a side street to make it to their reservation at the Martingale Wharf. Eli insisted on going to see the water, as they always do. It was there, on the pier, that Eli asked Sarah to marry him.
