In March 2020, my mom and I were supposed to take a weekend trip down to Fort Myers, FL to do some house hunting for after I graduated. The country and world were a buzz with a mystery virus that was rapidly starting to spread and seemed very dangerous. With too many unknown answers, we decided to cancel our trip. That weekend my sister and brother-in-law happened to be moving into their new house in Lexington. Since we were no longer leaving for Florida, we decided to tag along with my dad and help the moving process. While I was unpacking boxes and organizing the kitchen, a tall, bearded man who resembled John Krasinski brought a box inside. He immediately caught my attention and I asked my sister about him. She said, "that's Dev". Little did I know he was asking my brother-in-law the same questions about me outside. He lingered around longer while the day wrapped up and as soon as he left, I followed him on Instagram. Very out of character for me but definitely paid off. A few days later he slid into my DMs and well, the rest is history.
Since I graduated in May 2020, I didn't get an actual ceremony. I heard my name called over a zoom. Finally, in August 2021, the in-person ceremony was rescheduled. And a weekend I thought was all about getting a diploma, turned into so much more. Devon and I had many conversations about when we thought we would get engaged. I was told time and time again that it wasn't coming for a while, and I shouldn't get my hopes up. That weekend we flew into Cincinnati and after we landed Devon said he "had butterflies" and was just so excited to be there. I wasn't sure why this time was any different than usual. Once we got settled at home, I left with my mom and sister to go get my nails done for graduation. I chose red (Go Bearcats!) because why wouldn't I?? After finishing at the nail salon we had some free time before our "dinner plans". I suggested killing some time at Nordstrom Rack near by (any excuse to shop). Well, once we were in the car my sister started driving a different direction. I was confused but I just went with the flow. I thought maybe we had rotated plans and were going to a different restaurant for dinner. Soon I realized we getting close to Incline Public House. This was where Devon and I took our first photo together. During the planning of this trip Devon was adamant that we go there but I just thought he liked the food and the view. When we arrived, my mom told me to get out of the car and leave my purse. I was so confused. I saw Devon sitting at the overlook with a bouquet of roses. I got out of the car and my mind was racing. There was no way anything was happening, we had talked about this SO MANY TIMES. We I got to Devon he gave me a hug and kiss and said that he wanted to speed the timeline of the weekend (and our lives) up and take some nice photos together. He wasn't acting like himself. He seemed so nervous and I was just so confused. I kept looking at Devon's pockets to see if anything looked out of the ordinary, it didn't. Soon, I saw a family friend, Lindsey, pop out behind the bushes to take our photos. We took a few normal portraits and eventually Devon stepped in front of me and got down on one knee. This is when I blacked out. I truly don't remember a word he said, I was so shocked. When he opened the ring box (which he specifically picked to be flat) my jaw dropped. It was my dream ring. I was speechless.
