On Valentine’s Day of 2023, Sarah and Deanna matched on Bumble (a dating app). Unbeknownst to Deanna, Sarah knew exactly who she was swiping right on. Just a few months prior to this clandestine online match, Deanna’s mom, Rougina, had gone to work and asked a co-worker, one of Sarah’s best friends, Dennis, if he knew of any single ladies for her daughter. Luckily, he had just the person in mind and he excitedly reported back to Sarah about a single girl from Australia! While the stars didn’t align immediately, Sarah filed the emo girl from Australia away in her mind just in case she popped up. Fast forward a few months to February, when they matched and then went on their first date a week later. They met at Metropolitan coffee shop in Old Brooklyn, and spent the evening talking, laughing and walking around the neighborhood, until Deanna’s Vans became too uncomfortable to walk any further. They quickly bonded over their shared love of board games, concerts, travel, and family. When it came time to say goodbye, Deanna gave Sarah a hug, and Sarah immediately knew something was different. Soon after that first date, they began dating regularly and called it “official” on May 17th, 2023. Since then, they have enjoyed adventures to Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Vermont, where Deanna proposed by Horn of the Moon Lake on October 11th, 2025. They can’t wait for the next adventure and to celebrate with all of their favorite people!
