We're getting married!

...in fall 2013. Dave remembered that Sarah mentioned her fondness for ping pong when they met that February at a prospective grad student weekend (he also equally remembered the shirt she was wearing with birds on it!) and invited her to play a game. Only later did Sarah learn that he was taking it easy on her so he could get to know her better. He hasn't thrown a game since! Dave has taught Sarah (way too much) about birds & football. He has taught her how to snowboard & not to stress about the little things in life. Sarah has taught Dave about the superiority of red wine over white & that cats are awesome (especially Piper). They've traveled near & far together, going birding, roadtripping to craft breweries/wineries & even horseback riding in Mexico. They've taken couples' Acro Yoga classes, found piping plover nests & become avid fans of Michigan hard ciders. Now, after four years together, Sarah & Dave are getting married in the great Mitten state!

It was a rainy day in late April when Dave proposed to Sarah on the shores of Lake Michigan. The day started with one of their favorite activities: a road trip! They arrived in Saugatuck, where they went to their favorite cidery (Virtue Cider), had lunch at a local farm-to-table spot & then checked into their hotel. There, on the balcony overlooking the lake, Dave surprised Sarah with the question she had been waiting for--and a beautiful ring (thanks for the help, Rebecca)! Afterwards, they went to dinner at Sarah's favorite restaurant, Salt of the Earth (where they have giant salted caramel s'mores) & an older couple next to them stopped to chat on the way out. The woman said she had been watching them during dinner & thought it was so nice to see a young couple so happy & in love--hold on to that & you'll have a long, joyful marriage, she said. They took that as a blessing from the universe. Please join us in October to celebrate our marriage in the heart of Michigan!
