I sat behind this cute blonde girl in a set management film class in the fall of my senior year of college. Part of the class requirements were to form a group and work on a highly produced short film that you'd present at the end of the semester. Miraculously we were placed into the same group and now had to select the film roles that we would occupy for the remainder of the semester. Cute blonde girl was adamant that she be the 1st Assistant Director for the production, a role that possesses the most responsibilities out of any of the other roles... a role that I wanted. Fine. The pretty girl can have it. Before long she had acquired my contact and was constantly texting me and asking for advice on what duties she had to fulfill for her assigned role... the role she CHOSE. Why would she pick this role if she didn't know what she was supposed to be doing? Gradually I began to notice the content of our messages began to change from "Hey how do I do this" to "Hey how are you?" She became more personable and smiley when we'd talk in person after class. I could tell that during shoot times, after the Director called "action," when you had to be silent for the sake of audio recording, she would inch her way closer to me. One night, I had a sudden burst of courage. I was gonna ask this cute blonde girl named Sarahlynn out. I grabbed the phone and with a slight shake in my voice asked, "Wanna go on a date right now?" The rest, they say, is history.
“Hi mom, I have a boyfriend, I’ve been to his family's house and I met his parents.” I kept things pretty low-key because I didn't want anyone -- including myself -- to get any hopes up. So you can imagine my family's surprise when I dropped that out of the blue right after I got off a plane for Thanksgiving break in 2019. I had told them nothing prior to this. This was the first they had heard of a man named "Channing." Mary Claire required a FaceTime call to prove I actually had a boyfriend. I was still smitten and in shock myself! Turns out, Mr. Channing Mead is the real deal. I've never felt so loved and so appreciated. He is intentional, kind, funny and good-looking. I didn't know it was possible to feel so valued until he came along. We survived film class, a worldwide pandemic, raising a Frenchie puppy, long distance from TX to AR and a TX winter storm that left us hunting for groceries. The Lord is so faithful bringing us together and I am incredibly excited for what our future holds together! PS - I really didn't know any of the answers to the film questions I was asking him. There were no tricks or hidden innuendos to me casually giving out my number. I meant nothing by it. But I'm not complaining about the way it all played out. I am so excited to come home one day and say, "Hi mom, I have a HUSBAND!"
