A Socially Distanced Wedding!

What you need to know

Needless to say, when Brent and I started talking about marriage about two years ago, we never imagined we'd be tying the knot in the middle of a global pandemic. Yet here we are, and technology is to the rescue (hopefully)! Please consider this your virtual invitation to our wedding! The ceremony will be taking place August 1st at United Church Tallahassee, and it will begin at 11:59 am (a strange time, I'll give you, but there's a reason for it, if you keep reading after the instructions). Please RSVP here by Monday, July 29th (link to that specific page is located right above our photo, far right). We will be streaming the ceremony on Zoom; once you RSVP, I will email the Zoom link. Please save that email, as it will contain information on how to register for the "meeting". For security reasons, only registered members will be able to view the live stream. Brent and I can't wait to see you there!

Coming Home

08-01-1988 & 08-01-2020

When I sit and think about it, I realize that maybe it's fitting that our wedding takes place largely online. That's how Brent and I met - online, playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. That's the other thing about the two of us - Brent and I haven't ever really done anything the "conventional" or the "traditional" way. Individually, we've always marched to the beat of our own personal drum. Together, we're not any different. We've just found way to turn our separate beats into a shared melody. (I'm the last person in the world to make musical metaphors...but with a name like "Tambourine", it seems appropriate...) When I met Brent online, it didn't take very long for me to be absolutely smitten. Here was someone who liked the same nerdy things I did, who had a strong sense of spirituality, who wasn't threatened by a well-educated and ambitious woman, and who seemed to communicate well with me without much effort. Of course, who you meet online can be very different than the reality in person. When Brent and I met for the first time in October 2017, I'll never forget getting out of my car in the dark of a Baltimore night and turning to meet this ridiculously tall man who was staring at me with a strange look on his face. I was so nervous - what if he didn't like me? What if I didn't like him? What if we were just meant to be friends...? He opened his arms and when I stepped into that first hug, it was like coming home. That's how I describe Brent, how I describe our relationship - a homecoming. I was adopted into a military family and I've served in the military myself - as a result, "home" has always been an elusive reality for me. It is not a word or a feeling that I have ever taken lightly, and I never expected to feel that way about another person. Yet, here we are. Brent was born on August 1st at 11:59 pm. This August 1st, at 11:59 am, a new life is born again: one becomes two and two become one. We hope to see you there, to welcome us both home.
