My first year at university, I took a Tae Kwon Do (TKD) gym class. With wit and consideration, the instructor led us through this awkward new experience. As I observed him, my heart warmed. He was delightfully goofy, roguishly handsome and simply kind. Amidst these qualities, I grew too shy to engage him. It would be some time before that changed and we would cross paths again. Two years later, a friend cajoled me to join the TKD club. By then, that oh-so-interesting instructor had passed from my thoughts. Walking through the doors, I was struck! There he was. I assumed he had graduated! Then began a unique courtship of bashful glances and fast kicks. Seasons passed, I made wonderful friends, grew into a strong woman and got to know the man I had admired years before. Admiration grew to friendship. Friendship grew to love.
