In 2021 Ben and Sarah began their journey in the most romantic way possible; at a dive bar in West Ashley during a global pandemic. They hit it off immediately and talked for hours into the night. Over the next 6 months they went on road trips and adventures with day trips to islands, mountain camping weekends in Asheville, and a road trip up the coast to the arctic tundra that is Canada. Shortly after briefly experiencing actual winter weather, Sarah booked a flight to spend 6 months closer to the equator, in Benin West Africa, where she could finish up her PhD research on malaria. In July they continued their adventures, eating their way through Italy and Croatia before settling back in with Sarah’s brother Spenser in Charleston. They filled their days with tandem bike rides, sharks teeth hunting, estate sales and street finds, Juanita Greenbergs, beers, margaritas, and tattooed moose’s duck fat fries. In late September, Ben and Sarah took a road trip through the highlands of Scotland. Ben picked an amazing (yet rainy) spot on an overlook to ask Sarah to marry him. After spending a few more days in the camper van together, they travelled back to Charleston to start planning their special day and future.
