Believe it or not, we met in our third year of college when we both joined the social work program at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. Avery was the only guy in our cohort, but it was Sarah's humor that caught his eye. She made the first move, and our first date involved bowling and walking the Arboretum trails at UWGB. From that moment on, we were inseparable. A year and a half later, we’ve renovated our home ourselves and welcomed Winnie, our nearly one-year-old Golden Retriever, into our family.
Sarah had a feeling the proposal would happen over the summer. As August drew to a close, she knew it could be any day. One evening, she came home from work to Winnie, our energetic Golden Retriever puppy, eagerly greeting her. Inside, Avery announced, "Winnie messed up!"—and in that moment, Sarah knew. With our song playing in the background, Avery dropped to one knee and proposed in the place where it all began: our new home, made beautiful with love and Winnie by our side. Later, Avery admitted he'd tried training Winnie to deliver the ring box, but she was too excited to keep it in her mouth when her mom walked in.
