Sarah and Arthur had taken to the internet in search of Mr./Mrs. (swipe) Right and after a brief text message courtship during a snow storm, agreed to brave the elements and meet for a drink. The moment of truth….the masks came off and both were excited to see what laid underneath. A good margarita and a great conversation later, a turning point was reached. During the conversation and friendly banter over drinks, a challenge of sorts had been posed…Sarah believed she would be able to best Arthur in ping pong and so a follow-on location with tables was quickly identified. As the banter moved from friendly to flirty and Sarah realized her mistake in underestimating Arthur’s paddle skills, a connection was clearly starting to form. The rest, as the say, is history….and in this case, also the future.
So, there they were…a romantic weekend in San Diego, the trip itself a gift from Sarah since Arthur told her on an early date that he’d never been and always wanted to go. He went in with the greatest of plans, the purest of words, the perfect script to tell her how he felt and ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. She went in thinking maybe he might ask, but best not to think about it in case he doesn’t…even received a quick note from her sister wondering if this was the weekend. And then it happened. He looked deep into her eyes, forgot everything he had planned to say, and choked on his words however still demonstrating his knack for non-verbal communication as Sarah now knew exactly what was happening. After what felt to him like a month down on one knee, she said yes, and the ring slid perfectly onto her finger (it looks REALLY good on her by the way). They then set out to find maybe their happiest dinner yet only to learn that most kitchens were closed. They stumbled upon the most unlikely engagement dinner location, a hybrid club/bar/restaurant called the Flamingo Deck (It probably looks like what you’re imagining)…It honestly wasn’t bad and the people watching was great. The proposal kicked off one of the best weekend trips either had ever taken, full of relaxation, exploration, quality time, and fish tacos! (oh and he got to play Torrey Pines too)
