Two people, who had just recently met online, discovered neither had any New Year's Eve plans. They quickly changed that, with dinner and a night out at a party, watching the ball drop. At the time they were looking forward to a new year, not knowing it was the rest of their lives that lay ahead.
It was a beautiful summer day at Devil's Lake State Park, the skies were clear and people were enjoying the pristine natural vistas and sprawling scenery of the lake and forest. We started the day with some light hiking at ground level, but at Tony's insistence we climbed up the most difficult trail in the park, a winding and twisting path basically cut into the steep rock face of the bluff. It was a strenuous climb, but when we finally reached the top we certainly felt accomplished! We sat down on a natural stone bench, overlooking the calm and sparkling lake, tress surrounding us and birds singing. That's when Tony pulled out the ring he'd been nervously protecting for two hours' worth of hiking in the woods and atop steep cliffs. "If we can make it through that, we can make it through anything.", he said, as he presented the ring. I think you can guess how Sarah replied.
