Things To Do (Places and Restaurants)

Ronda

Ronda

Ronda is a magical little town balanced on the edge of an escarpment in the Málaga province. You may never have heard the name but there’s a good chance you’ve seen a picture of the Puente Nuevo, an 18th-century structure that spans the 120-metre-deep El Tajo Gorge between the citadel and newer part of the town. It’s one of the most impressive sights in Spain. Within the old citadel there are lots of intriguing fragments of Ronda’s 700-year occupation by the Moors to be discovered, and Ronda is also the Costa del Sol’s top wine town, with more than 20 wineries open for visits in the local countryside.

Old Town Marbella

Old Town Marbella

For Mediterranean glamour Marbella holds its own with the French Riviera and has all the things you want from a luxury beach destination: There are Michelin-starred restaurants, marinas filled with high-end yachts, golf courses, designer boutiques and a long chain of sandy beaches. Little wonder that celebrities and millionaires have been coming here for decades. For the inquisitive there are lots of little discoveries to be made around the resort, whether it’s the renaissance palaces in the old-town or the remnants of Roman villas hidden between the luxury developments.

Puerto Banus

Puerto Banus

A few kilometres east of old Marbella is the flashiest part of the resort. If Marbella draws comparisons with the French Riviera, it’s down to the boutiques, super yachts and luxury sports cars that meet your gaze everywhere you look in Puerto Banús. The area merits some of your time just to see the ostentatious displays of wealth, but you should check out the large Rhinoceros sculpture, also by Salvador Dalí, which weighs 3.6 tonnes. While away a few hours on the sandy beach or dress up for one of the posh restaurants here in evenings – if you can book a table.

Tarifa

Tarifa

This is the southernmost end of the Peninsula. Open to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the city has vast beaches. Tarifa became an important city back in the 10th century, under the rule of Abd-al-Rahman III, when the caliph castle that we find in the historic quarter was built. The influence of the Arab period can be seen in the present appearance of the city, with narrow, winding streets. It also has other interesting monuments, such as the Gothic-Mudejar chapel of Santiago; the convent of San Francisco, and the churches of Santa María and San Mateo. The township has almost 38 kilometres worth of beaches, most of which are shallow and have very fine sands, like Lances Beach. Walk through the Puerta de Jerez – the only one of four medieval entrances remaining – and you’ll find yourself in the densely packed maze of whitewashed houses and pretty squares that is Tarifa’s old town. Its central square is Plaza de Santa Maria, informally called Plaza de la Ranita (Little Frog Square).

Malaga

Malaga

Known to many as the capital of the Costa del Sol, Málaga is more than a seaside city. You can learn about Spain’s Islamic past at the majestic Alcazaba fortress palace, while Pablo Picasso was born here, so there are museums that shed light on his early years. And during the city’s famous festivals you can also get to know Andalusian culture, watching flamenco shows and quaffing sherry, in the part of the country where they originate. And in case you needed reminding, the world-renowned beaches, resorts and golf courses of the Costa del Sol could hardly be closer.

Restaurant - Marbella, Brodernas

Calle las Malvas 14, Marbella, 29660

Wicksy1 Southampton 86 Reviewed 14 December 2021 Great burgers and fantastic fries We visited the restaurant just along the seafront from Marbella harbour. Just stumbled across this place and we are so glad we did. One of the best tasting burgers I've had in Spain and the dirty fries are the freshest dirty fries you could imagine a great mix of flavours and just enough heat from the chillies. It was so good we went back the following day to try a different burger. My wife is vegetarian and really enjoyed the veggie options (and Dirty fries without the bacon) Outdoor and indoor seating is available. The menu has a wide range of delicious burgers in two sizes with a great choice of sides. I particularly loved the dirty burger and the dirty fries. My other choice was the Mexican, also very tasty. Lovely wine and the cheesecake was also fantastic. Lovely service.

Restaurant Malaga, DYNAMIT

Restaurant Malaga, DYNAMIT

Calle Merced 4, Malaga, 29012, Spain

OUR PHILOSOPHY AND OUR FOOD The idea behind Dynamit was that we wanted to create a restaurant, with Spanish produce but make it into something else. Something you can’t find in Malaga, a second living room with non pretentious food. Somewhere you can relax, eat a nice dinner paired with a good wine, talk a bit with the staff and most importantly a place we would love to go ourselves. WHO WE ARE? The D&D stands for Dilan (Headchef) and Devrim (Front of house) We both grew up in restaurant familys and started working in the industry quite early on. We met at a restaurant in Uppsala, Sweden, our home town where we worked together, after a bit of time we both decided that we needed a change and booked a one way ticket to Longyearbyen, Svalbard were we worked at a small sushi place. After a lot of years working for other people, an evening in Longyearbyen (after a few glasses of cava I might ad) the idea of Dynamit was born.
