We'll set the scene: it's a beautiful Durham day in May, 2016. Sarah has arrived first to her regular haunt Ponysaurus, and is sitting at a picnic table outside, holding Bifur's leash, probably sweating. Anirudh walks in, slowly, limping, as he had recently dislocated his patella during a very intense Duke Medicine Residents vs. Faculty basketball game. Sarah is apprehensive (he's a doctor after all, who wants to marry one of those) and Anirudh is very, very tired (Q3 call is hard, apparently). However, the two hit it off and start seeing each other casually. Weeks pass. Things get more serious. Sarah cooks for Anirudh. Anirudh makes plans to see Sarah even when he's working nights and doesn't sleep. And then.... BOOM. GHOSTED. Like most Tinder relationships, this one ended abruptly. But then, on one magical night in February, Sarah arrives to Clouds Brewing to watch the greatest basketball game that exists (Duke/UNC). She and her best friend Kayla manage to get a seat at the bar - a feat! After ordering a beer, she turns to survey her surroundings... and realizes that the tables are reserved for the Duke Medicine program. Scanning the exhausted resident physicians, she recognizes an unmistakable head of hair with a very slight bald spot - it was Anirudh. Sarah tried to leave, but was convinced by Kayla that they couldn't give up their precious bar seats. It was a tough game. UNC/Duke games are always intense, and this was no exception. But, at the end of the night, the best team (the Tar Heels) got the W. Naturally, like the gracious winner she always is, Sarah felt the need to rub it in Anirudh's face. So, she texted him to let him know how terrible his team was.... and they somehow ended up going home together. The rest is history. Despite their basketball differences, they persevered to make the relationship work through moves to Princeton and Cleveland. They're very excited to get married (again), and eventually have beautiful Tar Heel babies.
Sarah and Anirudh officially tied the knot in an intimate ceremony conducted by Sarah's maid-of-honor and sister Grace in October 2021. Sarah ad-libbed her (hilarious) vows, while Anirudh had to pull his phone out mid-vow to remind himself to tell his bride that she was beautiful. The couple celebrated the day with immediate family and their wedding party. They look forward to getting Hindu-hitched in front of ALL of their loved ones while celebrating their first anniversary this upcoming October!
