We’re married now!

I met Andrew in college. The days that followed, I ended up spending more and more time with him. Yes, it’s true, at first I was unsure, perhaps scared of getting hurt again, but he finally swept me off my feet after many romantic letters, riddles and a final surprise. For one week, Andrew wrote letters that were mysteriously dropped off at my dorm room. The letters read in a way that made me convinced he must be flying back and forth between Pittsburgh and my school, but that would have been an impossibly impressive task. One letter lead to cute gifts, and another led to the most decadent chocolate espresso cheesecake I have ever tasted—to this day. And the last letter left me wondering where the “fanciest dinner” could even be in Conneaut Lake. I was told to meet by the dock on the lake we frequented during the day. I was a bit confused but went anyway. When I arrived, the dock was pitch black as well as the rest of the lake, and I was told to get into the canoe. I was a bit surprised and also not as this is something Andrew would definitely do. I got into the long red boat. Andrew’s now, best man, rowed us out onto the lake. My eyesight isn’t that great—and all I could see what the darkness of the sky over the lake, the moon and some stars. I kept looking forward and finally I could make out many flickering lights in the middle of the lake. I remember being struck with awe, they were candles on a bridge, in the middle of the lake. It was the most romantic and beautiful thing anyone had ever done for me. We got to the little bridge island, I climbed out of the boat and up the bank to the bridge. There was a table for two set up with floors and drinks and food. I was almost literally blown away. He had done all of this for me, all of this, to ask me to be his girlfriend. If he could do all this, I wondered what he would do in our future. He has only ever raised the bar for himself.
