We met at the wedding of Andrew & Tracy - My cousin and Sarah‘s good friend from high-school. I had recently torn my ACL and arrived on crutches - not the ideal start to the story, especially as a groomsman. However, motivated by Tracy‘s cute bridesmaid Sarah, I found a way to make the most of a difficult situation. A few words were exchanged between us throughout the day, without either of us realizing what the other was thinking. After dinner, Sarah was taking a break after a long day in high heels and was momentarily alone at her table. I had been waiting for such a moment all evening and I plucked up the courage to walk (hobble) over. I’m very glad that I did because we spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing. We kept in touch over the following months and as they say, the rest is history!
Almost exactly 3 years after we met and after countless hours spent on the phone counting down the days to the next trip, we are finally engaged! We both flew to Munich (Sarah from Miami and me from China) to see each other for the first time in over 3 months (longer apart than usual). I surprised Sarah at the airport by saying “Oh, by the way... We are not going to Munich today“. We then drove to an alpine hotel near Königsee in the south-eastern tip of Bavaria. We took one day to relax in the mountains and on the following day we went to Königsee - a famous lake that Sarah had always wanted to see and asked me never to go without her. We took the electric boat across the lake to St. Bartholomew‘s church on the other side. We took a walk around the shore of the lake and I suggested we take a seat on a bench to relax and take in the view. A few minutes later I also suggested that we take a selfie using my tripod. This was all part of my plan and I set the camera to record a video. We took the fake picture and then I got down on one knee! A perfect day.
