The Start to Our Story

How We First Meet

It all started July 9,2021. We matched on Bumble and started texting. The next day, we continued to talk, and Tim asked me out and gave me the option: "We can go out tomorrow or next Sunday." I chose the next day so that I would not chicken out. Sunday rolls around, and we are to meet up after church at yorktown Beach. We then proceeded to talk about everything under the sun, including things most people say not to talk about on a first date like politics and religion. We walked and talked and got ice cream. All in all, we spent 7 hours together. That day, I think we both knew we would spend the rest of our lives together, and we have not looked back since.

How We Made Our Way to Fiancé

The day of the Engagement

I start by taking her out to the mall in Virginia Beach. I gave her a budget and told her she could get whatever she wanted and it would be her Christmas present. So we look at clothes, decorations, engagement rings and some jewelry she might want. I even asked her what kind of engagement ring she would want in the jewelry stores just to throw her off that I hadn't gotten yet. She could not find anything she wanted me to buy her that day. So we headed off to Virginia Beach by the fishing pier! To make things easier on us she found a place on the map that looked like it would have parking. Which was a ways off from the pier. I was worried that she would get cold on such a long walk to the pier and I wouldn't be able to convince her to make it all the way there. Luckily there was no available parking where she thought we could park! So we decided to try elsewhere. On the way to the fishing pier I began to get really nervous about how I was going to ask her. Her ring was still in my wallet and I did not plan to propose with my wallet. I couldn't think clearly and proceeded to miss multiple parking opportunities which just got us closer to the pier. We found a parking spot next to the pier and I was still trying to figure out how I was going to get the ring out of my wallet. I forgot to look both ways before crossing the street and Sarah grabs the back of my shirt, stopping me from walking in front of an oncoming car! As the car passed, I realized that Sarah saved my life. She then calmly reminds me to look both ways before crossing. As we cross the road and are walking toward the beach I lag behind to get the ring out of my wallet and to put it in my pocket. Unfortunately she looks behind her and asks "What are you doing with your wallet?” I reply, "I'm seeing if I left my miles card at the mall." Out of her concern she comes and helps me look for my miles card in my wallet and my heart is just racing as she looks into my wallet but she sees my miles card and responds “here give me your wallet and we'll put it in your inside jacket pocket.” I hesitated to give her the wallet but let her place it in my jacket hoping the ring didn't fall out in the process! As we walk down the ramp to the beach I seize another opportunity behind her to get the ring from my wallet and into my pocket. As I am making the switch she catches me and asks "Why do you have your wallet out again?" I then replied, "This jacket is tight and the wallet is making me feel uncomfortable poking into my chest." She says I'm too picky but moves on. We make small talk as we approach the pier and right when we walk underneath she pauses to look at the view of the water and I whip around dropping to one knee holding the ring in front of me towards her. She jumps in worry over me getting my nice pants dirty saying "No you're getting your pan.." I cut her off and asked her, "Will you marry me.." She pauses and I ask again she replies “What?” I start to tear up and ask again, "Will you marry me?" She asks "Are you serious?" I answer "Yes, will you marry me?" Her smile grows and face turns red and replies, "Yes! She then snags her ring from me in worry that I'll drop it and places it on her finger and we hug and kiss. We decided to get a picture of the moment. She had me face away from the ocean as she rested her hand on my shoulder for a picture. As she was getting the picture the tide was coming in and I said, "umm baby? I think the tide is coming in." Her: "Hold on I almost got it!..Got it!" At that moment a huge wave crashed behind me and water was rising up my legs and we were both running up the beach with our shoes and socks wet! We were both cold so we headed back to the car. We talked about what just happened and how we felt then let our family and friends know we were engaged. We headed off to Walmart to walk around to kill time for our reservation and to get our heads around what just happened. We got to our reservation and had an amazing meal together.
