Sarah and Payton went to high school together, but never really showed up on each others radars until her best-neighbor-friend (@forrestparker) asked if his friend could sleep on her apartment couch in Tallahassee (circa 2012). As P came to visit Tallahassee more and more, a friendship blossomed. In the summer of 2014, P told S he had decided to enlist in the Air Force. With a rich family history of military service and knowing she was going to pursue a military medicine scholarship, S started paying closer attention. A couple thousand snapchats later, a mutual friend’s wedding and undeniable chemistry accumulated on December 20th 2014. S was admitted to Florida State University College of Medicine and P was slated to go off into the blue yonder at the drop of a hat, but they let their hearts lead. 4.5 years of long distance brought some truly amazing adventures and many flights in opposite directions of each other. But through the trials of distance brought partnership and love not bound by a map. In March of 2019, the last foreseeable winter season in Colorado for P, they invited some of their families to share in a ski vacation at Keystone Resort. Typical of S, when P said that “everyone wanted to meet for lunch at 11:30” one day on the slopes, she said she wasn’t hungry yet and wanted to delay. Unbeknownst to her that he had gathered everyone intentionally for a big surprise. Luckily the lunch gathering prevailed and an “improptu” family photo shoot followed... With his time in service now finished and hers just beginning, the long distance gap finely closed when they move to Portsmouth, VA together in May 2019 with their dog-child, Bear. Payton is pursuing his degree in engineering at Old Dominion University, while Sarah is a resident Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the Navy Medical Center Portsmouth. We are incredibly excited to celebrate with our friends and family as we make a public commitment to each other forever!
