Sarah-Michelle and Caleb overlapped for three years at Texas but never met. We know what you’re thinking–Texas is a huge university, so that’s understandable. But, the statistics were actually in their favor! Their organizations hung out a ton; they share hundreds of mutual friends; they frequented Abel’s nearly every Tuesday (dollar beer night); they were both often on the football field; they ended each Saturday at the Blind Pig; they attended the same church; and they both love Mozart’s Coffee Shop on the water. They even visited the same location for Spring Break during the same year (and have photos at the same spot!). Yet, they first met in Dallas–eleven years later… thanks to Hinge. Caleb quickly invited Sarah-Michelle on a first date, at THE Katy Trail Ice House. Caleb was uncharacteristically late (by a full 10 minutes), and Sarah-Michelle was uncharacteristically early (by a full ten minutes). For Caleb, it was love at first sight. This fire sign was sold and jumped in heart first, immediately canceling the other dates he had scheduled – he was all in on SM. For her part, Sarah-Michelle immediately knew that Caleb was one-of-a-kind: he carried the conversation, he was curious about all kinds of topics, and he was already sharing personal stories! The two talked every night on the phone but only met in-person about once a week for a few weeks, given, ahem, prior commitments. But very soon, both decided that there was simply no one else with whom they’d rather spend their time. And when Caleb was willing to attend the bird show with her at THE Texas State Fair, Sarah-Michelle knew he was a keeper. Caleb, in true Caleb fashion, invited Sarah-Michelle to watch the Texas game in Stillwater about a month after they were exclusive. There, Sarah-Michelle met the whole Wiley crew and, looking back, was very quickly welcomed as the newest member of the family (after Mrs. Wiley interrogated her about what 3 things make her “unique”). These two lovebirds realized they share a love of Christ, their families, traveling, learning, and Texas (The State and The University). They also quickly realized they are great complements: Sarah-Michelle is the brakes on his impulsiveness and Caleb (tries) to make sure she gets places on time. Both enjoy planning to be out-and-about more often than not but also, fortunately, find the humor when plans take unexpected turns. Almost exactly one year after meeting, Caleb proposed to Sarah-Michelle on a trip to the annual grape stomp in the Texas Hill Country. TLDR: We’re getting married and can’t wait to celebrate with you!
