Getting & Staying "Out East"

If your whaling boat is in the shop and you’re not sailing into Greenport, there are still many convenient ways to get to the North Fork. And plenty of accommodations await once you do.

Flight

NYC Airports

The North Fork is easily accessible from all major airports in the tristate area. Flying into LaGuardia Airport or John F. Kennedy International Airport leaves you with an easy drive or short trip into NYC for mass transit options. Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, New York is located approximately fifty miles from the North Fork.

Train

Long Island Railroad

The Long Island Railroad provides daily service to the North Fork from Manhattan’s Penn Station. Trains, however, are few and far between, typically departing only twice a day. While not the most accommodating option, the train is a great way to take in the scenery of Long Island’s farm and vineyard country.

Travel Note

The Hampton Jitney

The Hampton Jitney (or, affectionately, “the Jit”) is an incredibly easy was to get to the North Fork for those travelling from NYC. With many departure times throughout the day, the Jit offers a variety of pickup locations on the east side of Manhattan and makes stops throughout the North Fork, including Greenport and Southold. Fun tip – travelers on the Jit’s Ambassador Line are treated to a free glass of wine on board!

Travel Note

By Car

"Take it to the end and make a right” The quickest driving route to the North Fork is by way of I-495 to its Exit 73. From there, follow NY 25 (the “Main Road”) to your NOFO destination. For the scenic-minded, we recommend using Exit 71 to head to County Road 48 (“Sound Avenue”). The North Fork can get busy in the summer, so please leave ample time for your drive. If you get out east earlier than expected, or decide to make a weekend out of it, check out our North Fork favorites!
