Our Story

People say first impressions are everything. When Sara was a freshman and I was a sophomore, we met one fateful evening. One of the first conversations we had Sara decided to express her intense, mostly negative feeling about the state of Arkansas. She did this completely unprompted and without the knowledge I had spent the majority of my life to that point in the land of Wal-Mart and hog hats. While I pretended to be appalled, I found myself growing certain I wanted to get to know this girl. The following summer Sara had managed to find employment at a local fireworks stand. In-between one of her shifts as a budget Lockheed Martin saleswoman she agreed to go on our first date. The date got off to an explosive start, when a pepper caused my face to turn a shade of red I wasn’t aware was possible in humans. As I was chugging the water straight out of our glass pitcher that the restaurant had given us, I wiped away my own tears to see my date also crying. To my delight instead of being offput by my theatrics, Sara was about to fall out of her chair laughing. As the night went on and the tears dried, I was ever more confident this was the beginning of something truly special. As time progressed and the semesters turned into years Sara and I went on many adventures alongside one another. These expeditions took us throughout the United States: from the vast expanse of the southwest to the forested lowlands of the east coast. As we traveled and attended school together, I realized that the world was a bit more beautiful when experienced with Sara. Things like going to lunch in the Caf or watching horrible romantic movies together became just as meaningful to me as any valley or mountain we could explore. Now approaching our newest adventure, I can only hope to provide Sara with a fraction of the selfless and patient love she has shown me. I am not sure what I ever did to deserve such a blessing as Sara, however I can say with confidence I will cherish it until my last breath. The poem below describes how I feel better than I can: love is more thicker than forget by E. E. Cummings love is more thicker than forget more thinner than recall more seldom than a wave is wet more frequent than to fail it is most mad and moonly and less it shall unbe than all the sea which only is deeper than the sea love is less always than to win less never than alive less bigger than the least begin less littler than forgive it is most sane and sunly and more it cannot die than all the sky which only is higher than the sky -- Spencer
