Novermber 2, 2016. The Cubs were playing the Indians in Game 7 of the World Series. I was in my second year of law school and had plans to meet Sara that evening for a drink. She just started anesthesia school at Duke and allowed me to pick the place. I settled on the R&R Grill in Chapel Hill because I knew they'd offer a quiet spot to watch the game and chat. Over a few drinks, we got to know each other and learned that Sara had been stalking me her entire life. After growing up and attending college in the Tri-State area like me, she moved out to San Diego two years after I did. From 2011-15, we both lived in San Diego without ever knowing of each other's existence (so she says). In 2015, I moved to Chapel Hill to start law school and one year later Sara enrolled in Duke, moved to Durham, and convinced me to bridge the Tobacco Road Rivalry and spend time with her. So there we were at the R&R Grill. Sara looked beautiful and we had a ton to talk about from the start given all the common experiences we shared. Conversation was moving along great, but the game playing in the background kept getting better. Anyone who watched knows that it was probably one of the best World Series games in history! Ultimately, the Cubs won in ten innings and put an end to a 108 year World Series drought. I'd later learn that Sara thought our date was not very good because of the attention I was giving to the game, but I was able to convince her to see me again. Without the distraction of a historically good baseball game, our relationship began to quickly grow. In the three years since, we've shared our lives together. We've watched our families grow with weddings and babies and grieved the loss of loved ones. We've taken pride in each other's achievements and endured the struggles that went into them. Our love has grown every step of the way and we look forward to being by each other's side for all that life has to offer. Thank you all for your very important part in it!
