Flight

Italy

Central Italy has a few easy airport options for arriving in the region. Florence (FLR) and Pisa (PSA) are the closest airports to the wedding venue, both being about 1.5 hours away, but may not be the most economical as they are smaller airports. Rome (FCO) will be the closest major hub connecting directly from the USA. From the airport, you have the option of taking the train, a charter bus, or renting a car to get to the venue. If you are going to be in Rome on Monday, October 7th, we are coordinating group transportation from Rome directly to the venue (RSVP to transportation coming in July). Italy has very convenient public transportation, so while planning your trip, keep in mind that there are speed trains connecting all major cities, for example, if your last day is planned in Florence, you can still easily book to fly in and out of Rome, as the train to the airport from Florence is only is 1.5hrs to connect to Rome FCO.

Travel Note

Lodging

Please feel free to make any booking for your lodging based on your desired budget in Siena or the surrounding countryside as we are unable to have an American-style block at a specific location. We will have transportation back into Siena city center at the end of each event as well as assistance in coordinating cabs to return to your lodging!

Shuttle

Rome to Borgo Stomennano

October 7, 2024 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

For anyone who will be in Rome, we are organizing a shuttle leaving from Romes Termini station directly into Siena and Borgo Stomennano.

Travel Note

Car Rental

Renting your own car is the best way to see the Tuscan countryside. When renting a car in Italy and throughout Europe, be sure to select 'Automatic' versus 'Manual', as most cars in the EU are manual. When visiting larger cities such as Florence, you will not need a car and may have a difficult time finding parking, as these cities are meant for walking. I would suggest only renting a car if/when you are exploring the Tuscan countryside, otherwise, trains and buses are the easiest way to get around.

Train

Italo, Trenitalia, ItaliaRail, and Frecciarosa

Trains are the easiest way to travel quickly between cities. I wouldn't recommend getting your local tickets more than a day or so in advance at most, as it is much easier to arrive at the train station itself and book them at the self-service portals or in person with a train station employee. If you are booking a high-speed train, you can book those tickets a few days to a week in advance. You will be able to speak English with the train station staff, so no worries if you get lost or confused. Here are some keywords to help with the train station. As long as you can find your 'Binario' number to get onto your train, you'll be fine!
