Sara Nicole Victoria and Kalil David Leggett first met in early January of 2020, on a cold and casual day at the beginning of both of their first quarters at Clark Community College, in Vancouver Washington. Sara had just graduated high school from Heritage, and Kalil had just completed his 5-year enlistment in the United States Navy. On the first day of winter quarter, Kalil was early to English 098 and introducing himself to the Mrs. Smith the English Professor. As the class trickled in, Sara eventually made it through the door and took a seat a couple tables over, but with a diagonal and direct view of Kalil. Sara had sat in the back trying to avoid Kalil due to her thinking he was loud and annoying. However, after a couple days of being in class together, Kalil started to grab Sara’s attention. She decided to get his attention by dressing nicely. While wearing a nice dress and boots, Sara walked into the classroom and Kalil said “dang Sara, you know how to dress!”. Kalil had no idea that Sara was interested in him, so giving her this compliment sent her heart spiraling for him. Then the next day, Kalil and Sara sat next to each other due to the teacher moving Kalil next to Sara to socialize. Kalil mentioned Legend of Zelda and that peaked Sara’s curiosity. Sara casually asked, “So you like Legend of Zelda too?” Which Kalil responded with “of course I love it, I grew up playing that game!” Sara showed no visible expression to his remarks besides nodding in agreement, but deep down she was so giddy that he had similar interests to her. After a couple weeks of spontaneous talking and casual conversations, Sara added Kalil on Instagram and began a private conversation with him, asking about his hobbies and interests. This led to Sara inviting Kalil to come to the Clackamas Town Center mall, where they went on their first date. The day consisted of making stuffed animals at Build-A-Bear, window shopping for puppies and kittens, and having deep conversations in-person pre-pandemic; getting to know each other. When it was time for Kalil to go home, Sara and Kalil stopped off at Dutch Bros, where Kalil bought them both drinks, and when Kalil stepped out of the car and said goodbye, he proceeded to fumble his drink and spill all over Sara’s mom’s car and in the interior through a cracked window. In a panic, Kalil grabbed interior and exterior cleaning products and frantically detailed the car out of embarrassment. When he finished, he said goodbye and went back inside the house. He received a phone call shortly after, in which Sara told him he had forgotten something outside. When Kalil got back outside, Sara made her move and kissed Kalil for the first time while he was wondering if he really did leave something outside. And the rest is history.
