THE HEART OF IT

As we prepare for this celebration, we’ve been reflecting on what brought us here, what holds us together, and what this day means to us.
We met in 2014 organizing in the labor movement. Around that time, we both came across the labor song "Bread and Roses" and it’s been a guiding theme for us ever since. The song speaks to the idea that a just world must offer more than survival: not only bread, but also roses. Not just the necessities of life, but also dignity, beauty, and love.
That vision shapes how we think about our partnership and what it means to build a life together. It's how we see and interact with the community around us - those we know and love, and those we’ve never met. It’s also the spirit we bring to this celebration: a little bread (dinner), a few roses (dancing), and the joy of being surrounded by the people* we love.
*The cats we love (Teddy, Marty, and Gus) will be celebrating in spirit with bread (kibble) and roses (catnip) at home.
