Women: Light Fabrics: opt for breathable materials like cotton, linen, or chiffon that are comfortable in warm weather. Colors and Patterns: light, airy colors and floral or tropical prints are popular choices. Think pastels or soft hues that reflect the beach environment. Footwear: stylish yet comfortable footwear. Wedges, sandals, or even chic flats work well. Avoid high heels that may sink into sand. Men: Lightweight Shirt: a short-sleeve or long-sleeve linen or cotton button-down. White, pastel, or subtle prints work. Chinos, Dress Shorts, or Khakis: light-colored chinos or tailored shorts/pants that are breathable and comfortable. Loafers or Boat Shoes or Dress Sandals: stylish loafers or boat shoes in breathable materials, or more open sandals
While the likelihood of rain during the summer months in O'ahu is quite low, any brief showers that do occur typically last no more than 20 minutes, followed by beautiful sunshine. Should we experience a quick downpour, we may simply postpone the ceremony for a few minutes. Otherwise, there’s no need for concern—just enjoy the lovely weather!
Renting a car is not a necessity! If you are staying within the Waikiki area I would suggest looking at either Uber or public transportation for a few short trips. Tours are available for many of the excursions, such as Kualoa Ranch, which include roundtrip transportation for a small fee. However, if you are considering some of the further excursions (i.e. North Shore), or are interested in roadtripping on the island (a doable day trip!) it may be a worthwhile option. While there are no toll roads (even the "interstates"), parking in Waikiki is expensive, with rates of about $40 per day. Roads on the island are narrow and tunnels and bridges have little clearance, so we recommend choosing a compact car.
Musubi: a popular Hawaiian snack made of a slice of spam or other protein, topped with a drizzle of soy sauce, and wrapped in sushi rice and nori (seaweed). It’s portable, flavorful, and often enjoyed as a quick meal or on-the-go treat. Huli Chicken: grilled chicken marinated in soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and pineapple juice, giving it a sweet and savory flavor. Kalua Pork: slow-cooking pork, often in an underground oven called an imu. The meat is seasoned with sea salt and wrapped in ti leaves, resulting in tender, smoky, and flavorful pulled pork. It’s a staple at luaus and is often served with rice. Loco Moco: hearty Hawaiian comfort food consisting of a bed of rice topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and a generous drizzle of brown gravy. Mac Salad: creamy side dish made with elbow macaroni, mayonnaise, and a mix of vegetables like carrots and onions. Shave Ice: made from finely shaved ice, topped with colorful flavored syrups. Often served with condensed milk, fruit, or azuki beans, it’s a popular treat on hot days and comes in a variety of flavors and combinations. Dole Whip: pineapple-flavored soft serve that’s creamy, sweet, and refreshingly tangy. Originating at Dole Plantation in Hawaii, it’s often enjoyed as a frozen treat or served in a cup or pineapple shell, making it a must-try for visitors. Fresh tropical fruit: pineapple, mango, lychee, ube, papaya, jackfruit, and so much more
