How We Met

December 10th, 2014

This happy couple met in undergrad at the University of Northern Iowa. (Go Cats!) Technically, the couple first met at a pool party on the first weekend of Sara's freshman year of college. Chris kindly offered a group of Sara's friends a ride back to the dorms after a day in the sun. Sara was just getting a taste of the college scene. She vividly remembers listening to Avicii's song "Wake Me Up" squished into the backseat of Chris's Buick Regal with a few of her now forever friends. Over the next year one of Sara's friends stayed in touch with Chris. The day they really met. It was a Wednesday night on college hill. Sara's close friend invited her out for drinks and karaoke. The two gals made their way to The OP for a night of fun. While waiting at the bar for a drink Sara's friend shouted, "It's Humphrey!" Sara turned around and was introduced to Chris, a short, olive complexioned, handsome rugby player who instantly caught her eye. To this day, Sara is still unsure why her friend called him "Humphrey," but it never really mattered anyway because the couple instantly clicked. The two had dinner, drinks, a movie night and attended a business fraternity event all in one week's time. It was evident these two were falling for each other. On December 14th (Chris will argue 15th) Sara said to Chris, "I wish you were my..." and trailed off. She panicked. She had only known this guy for 4 days. Chris replied, "What? Say it." So Sara finished her thought and said, "I wish you were my boyfriend." And Chris said, "Okay!" The two have been together ever since. And now, they're more than excited to continue their lives together forever, as husband and wife!

The Engagement

May 28th, 2021

Chris has known he wanted to marry Sara for a long time. He specifically remembers a childhood story of hers. She said back when she was around the age of 12 it would be her dream to get married under water. Realistically, this wasn't going to work, so instead Chris set out to create an under water proposal. He devised a plan. He flew out to Orlando, FL to help Sara drive to Indianapolis, IN for her next clinical rotation. While driving north, the couple stopped in Atlanta, GA. Chris told Sara his buddy had extra tickets to the Georgia Aquarium. He told her this day was going to be "life-changing," but she didn't seem to know what she was in for. While walking around on their private tour of the aquarium they learned so much. They got to see the 6.3 million gallon tank full of incredible sea creatures and coral reefs. After ooing and ahing, Chris suggested they take a photo. The tour guide mentioned they get a free complimentary photo with the tour so they removed their face masks and got ready to pose. That's when Chris turned to Sara and told her how much he loved her. He got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. She was speechless. She nodded yes and held out her hand. Chris placed the most beautiful ring on her finger and they cried, hugged and kissed. Later that night they traveled to Nashville, TN where they partied on Broadway with friends. The next morning they finished their drive to Indiana. Chris told Sara they needed to make it to their dinner reservation and gifted her with a gorgeous white dress to wear for the evening. They pulled up around 6pm and headed inside. As the hostess walked the couple back to a private room, Sara saw a familiar face through the glass door. The two entered the room greeted by their families and closest friends cheering and congratulating them! Chris truly surprised her. A special day everyone will always remember.
