Our First Date

March 2014

For their first date, Aydon asked Sara to go bowling and see a movie. Beforehand, he suggested they walk around the mall to talk and browse around. Sara, being a quirky cheesy gal, took it literally and suggested that walk AROUND the mall. So instead of window shopping mall storefronts, Aydon and Sara spent their first date doing laps around the Spotsylvania Towncenter before bowling and watching Non-Stop at the movie theater.

Hiking in a Hurricane

Did Anyone Bring an Umbrella?

In Highschool, we ventured to the Shenandoah National park to see "The Most Beautiful View in Virginia" at Mary's Rock. Of course, prior to setting out, neither of us checked the weather forecast. Shortly before arriving at the park entrance it started torrential downpouring. We pulled over before entering the park to decide whether to stick to the plan and hike, or turn around and head home. Our thought was, we've already come this far, let's see that view. So we ventured into the park, and embarked on the 2.7 mile hike to Mary's Rock. The rain continued with full strength the entire hike, the trails were flooded and neither of us were equipped with raincoats or umbrellas. When we finally reached the peak, what was supposed to be the most beautiful view in Virginia turned out to be a thick fog enveloping the whole mountain range. We could not see each other standing only a few feet apart, let alone a skyline view. This hike is what inspired Aydon to propose to Sara during the hurricane of 2022. He says that day back in Highschool where we decided to do the hike despite the conditions is a beautiful reflection of our love for each other- that despite the conditions, that we will choose each other.
