Sara and Amber met 6 years ago standing in line for a party in Brooklyn. S introduced herself to A with "You're beautiful, I'm Sara. Nice to meet you." Ditching the rooftop, A offered S & her friends a ride to the next destination that evening, before parting and not seeing each other again for the next year. 1 year later, Sara saw a beautiful woman at a rooftop party in NYC. S knew she recognized A, but just couldn't place from where. S proceeded to stare (creepily) at A, until A (who recognized & remembered S) went to talk with a mutual friend to get her attention. Taking that as her cue, S rushed over & introduced herself. S asked A for tea the next week and by the end of the evening, they both knew they had met their match. THE PROPOSAL(S) Unlike most typical engagements, Sara + Amber had 3 proposals based on the levels of engagement in their relationship: (1) Commitment - Dismayed by past experiences & society's focus on the "typical" relationship model, A + S decided to instead create a model that prioritized them both individually as well as collectively. Meant as a stepping stone, the first engagement confirmed that they desired to build a foundation in life side by side. (2) Loyalty - With the relationship progressing beautifully, A+S decided they wanted to prioritize their loyalty to each other above all else. To mark the occasion, A met with their friend Sophia to pull off a surprise disguised as a bday party for Sara. Friends gathered at Duane Park and S was called on stage as A descended the stairs to propose. Cue birds of paradise, peacock feathers, leather, top hats, burlesque, leashed boy toys (Sean!), great music, aerial performances (Shalva!), & so much love. (3) Dedication to love - Above all else, S + A decided to prioritize collective care in their lives & build a world of happiness for each other, whether together or apart. Every 3 years, Amber and Sara will assess & develop new stages of love and commitment to one another.
