While the wedding weekend will be fairly egalitarian, we will have some Jewish and Filipino rituals and traditions woven into the weekend: Shabbat Dinner: we will be hosting a "Rehearsal Dinner"/Shabbat dinner on Friday night, which is the Jewish Sabbath—it is celebrated every Friday night and signifies the separation between the week and the weekend. At the beginning of dinner, we will do some Shabbat blessings - such as lighting the candles and blessing the wine and bread (challah). This is a dinner that was a big part of Sara’s life growing up, and has become a regular tradition that she and Carlo now do together. Wedding Day Jewish Marriage Contract/Open Tisch: This will take place during cocktail hour, prior to the ceremony. We are hosting an open 'tisch' where people are invited to give toasts and watch us sign our Jewish marriage license. Jewish-Filipino ceremony: There are few different Jewish and Filipino rituals performed during a wedding ceremony. The Jewish traditions include Sara circling around Carlo 7 times to represent the 7 days of creation and Carlo stepping on some glass that finalizes their marriage (cue the "Mazel Tov!" which means "congratulations" in Hebrew). Sara and Carlo will also get married under a chuppah, which is a sacred canopy that the bride and groom stand under that signifies the home they are going create together in their married life. The Filipino traditions include, Carlo gifting Sara 13 coins, called arras, under the chuppah, which signifies mutual prosperity, and having a figure-eight cord, called a yugal, placed over them to signify their everlasting love and equality in their relationship. The yugal being used is the same Carlo's parents used when they were married. The reception: the final Jewish custom will be the Hora, which is a celebratory (and participatory!) dance performed at the reception. Sara and Carlo will be lifted on chairs, as their guests dance in circles around them.
We want you to fully embrace the tropical Miami lifestyle. Please note that the wedding ceremony (weather permitted) and reception will mostly be held outside, which means it will be HOT. Men, feel free to lose the jacket. Ladies, think florals and bright colors.
While we love your children, we ask that you kindly do not bring them to our wedding on Saturday evening. If you need a babysitter for Saturday night, please let Sara know and she will help you find someone.
For the Rehearsal Shabbat Dinner on Friday night, we recommend taking an Uber/Lyft or taxi to Wynwood. It's about a ~10 minute car ride. For the wedding, we will be providing shuttles from The Confidante Hotel to our wedding venue at 5 PM and back to The Confidante Hotel at the end of the night. You're also welcome to take an Uber/Lyft or taxi. It's about a ~15-20 minute drive from the hotel. For those of you joining us from out of town, we will hanging by the pool at The Confidante on Sunday. Please join us! :)
