It turns out that sometimes, the best stories begin with a plan that goes delightfully wrong. The story of Sanup and Anu began thanks to the matchmaking efforts of two thoughtful souls, a close friend and a cousin. After the introduction, they spent a week connecting over endless texts. It was during this texting phase that Anu mentioned her fascination with a coworker who had hiked the monumental Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)—a months-long journey in the wilderness. Sanup listened, entertained the curiosity, but kept his own incredible connection to the trail a secret. Finally, they decided to make it official and plan their first date. Sanup, aiming for romance and cultural enrichment, meticulously planned an evening of warm ramen followed by a viewing of a critically acclaimed indie film. The date started perfectly, filled with easy laughter and shared bowls of steaming ramen. It was there, amidst the slurping, that Sanup casually dropped a bombshell: he hadn't just heard of the hike, he had completed the entire PCT himself in 2016! The conversation instantly deepened, moving from casual first-date banter to genuine awe and curiosity, as the surprise element of the PCT revelation hit home. Next came the movie. Despite the glowing reviews, the film was, well, not at all as expected. It was quirky, confusing, and ultimately a bust. But instead of letting it sour the evening, the mishap became a shared, hilarious moment that truly broke the ice. That evening proved that even when things don't go according to plan, the right person can make any moment fun. It naturally led to their next adventure: a real hike the very next weekend. From the efforts of two great friends to a shared trail, it was clear this was a journey they wanted to continue together.
