Question

Are there any cultural or religious customs to consider when participating?

Answer

Great question, the church ceremony will be a Catholic mass where the priest leads the assembly in a prayer of penitence, asking for God's forgiveness and help in celebrating the sacrament of marriage. Followed by a Liturgy of the Word, where we the couple and the assembly listen to readings from the Old and New Testaments, followed by a homily or reflection by the priest. Next in the Exchange of Vows is the bride and groom exchange vows and exchange wedding rings as a symbol of our love and commitment to each other. In the Blessing and Exchange of Rings, the priest blesses the rings and is the couple exchange them as a sign of their love and commitment to each other. Near the end we will have the Liturgy of the Eucharist where we the couple and the assembly participate in the celebration of the Eucharist, also known as Communion. And after reflection we close with the priest offering his blessings for us the couple and the assembly to go in peace and to fortify our new unity under the protections of the Lord.
