She had just completed a decades-long journey across the world, and he was chasing dreams in the big city. She was from the midwest, and he, the California coast. They took very different paths in life that oddly enough led them to the Institute of Spiritual Formation at Biola University. At the end of every lecture, the professor (shoutout John Coe) would ask students to share their thoughts on the material with their neighbor... which just so happened to pair these two together. She quickly became "this missionary girl from class" and he was "cute Kyle from class", respectively. In fact, he's still "Kyle ISF" in her phone. After about six months of these veeerryyyy studious conversations, Kyle invited Sanna to a gig he was playing with some friends. They didn't talk very much, but there was something in the air (and it wasn't just songs that have less than 1000 streams on Spotify). She would invite him to a church event that was celebrating Orthodox Easter, where there just so happened to be no other friends or classmates present. In between the priest's words, she would lean over and translate the sermon to English for him. A few weeks later they would unknowingly re-enact the first date from 1984's Karate Kid by going mini-golfing in Norwalk and, as they say, the rest..... is history. Well, not really.
