She was the girl next door for fourteen years; he was the guy who sat across from her in French and Accounts tuitions. Sanjana and Kirk watched each other grow, but didn’t do so much as bat an eyelid doing so. Being in the same university and eventually ending up interning at the same company, their budding childhood romance only took 23 years. Little did they know that when their eyes met in the hallways, or seated across from one another that there would, long down the road, be a day where they would be vowing to love each other for the rest of their lives. All good romances start with a friendship. Like any classic rom-com it took a while for Kirk and Sanjana to realise they only wanted to be with each other all along, only minus the pouring rain and dramatic declarations of love. It started with the little things, like a text message every now and then, giving each other small gifts and having work lunches together. Till eventually, what started out as a little crush, turned into real love. After Kirk’s curiosity about Christianity turned into a firm faith, they attended a conference in Mumbai together. As it started out with ‘chance’ having them seated together on the plane ride there, it ended with Kirk letting Sanjana know how he had truly felt about her all this time. From then on, it’s safe to say that things have never really been the same for either of them.
She just bought herself a white lace dress, if only she knew the irony that awaited her that evening. Freshly manicured, somewhat suspicious and extremely hopeful, Kirk finally popped the question on the 2nd of November 2019. Everything was ready, but it came to Sanjana’s disappointment when she got all dolled up for a trip to the local City Center. Little did she know this was the night that was going to change everything. After their fairly underwhelming dinner, Kirk decided to ‘spontaneously’ take Sanjana on a walk along one of the rooftops of the creek-side residences. Cut off from all the noise around them, with a view that overlooked the whole city, it was the perfect night out in Dubai. Kirk’s first utterance of a simple “I love you” already brought Sanjana to tears, and she didn’t even know what he was about to say next! “Sanjana, Will you marry me?” was a question that didn’t even need to be asked cause the answer was just so obvious. As if the day full of enough surprises already, Kirk planned a celebration night out for drinks with all of their closest friends (with a surprise visit of one of Sanjana’s best friends from Australia!). This night couldn’t have been more perfect.
