The story of how I met the one. We were in medical school together. Strangers sitting in different rows. Little did I know, I would say yes to two of the biggest questions he would ask me. At that time, Ben was running for class vice-president. Everyone wanted to be his friend. Yep, he was one of the cool kids. But what caught my eye was the fact that he was so gentle, caring, compassionate literally to every single person. He reminded me of my dad. As much as I wanted to strictly focus on school and not worry about any boy, I couldn’t help but wanting to talk to him and get to know him. So, I overcame my reservations and said hi. (Actually he said hi many times, but I finally said hi back) So many good memories of how caring he was. I remember one day, during school, I had a headache and was looking for tylenol. None of my friends had any. This gem of a person took his lunch time to drive home to bring me some. In the past five and a half years, Ben has stuck by my side through the good and the bad. He has helped me get over my fears, been my greatest cheerleader, my everything. He brings out the best in me. I can’t thank God enough for this beautiful soul. I can’t wait for forever with him.
When I first saw Lillian, we were both in medical school together. I remember one of the first meaningful interactions I had with her was when a tropical rain poured down right as our lectures ended. She was walking home in the rain. I lived farther away and had a car. I offered her a ride down to her home, but she would not get into my car because she doesn't get into strange boys' cars. I drove beside her and talked to her while she walked, rain soaked, down the long road way to her apartment. I made sure she got home, and then I went home. That small interaction paved the rest of our relationship. I eventually moved to an apartment that was closer to our school, and I noticed that she lived in the building beside mine. I would bother her constantly. She would almost always turn me away. I remember getting home from school one day, and there were a scatter of cows sitting outside our apartments. I knocked on Lillian's door and made her walk me to my apartment by distracting the cows. She will never live that down. As we got to know each other, we became better friends. In early September, I remember sitting outside the medical library with her under a tree. I asked her out on a date. That was her first yes. On September 12, 2016 we had our first date. It was beautiful. We went for dinner on the beach. The sunset was something to take your breathe away. Unfortunately for my lungs, my breathe was already gone just by seeing how beautiful my date was. From that day onwards, I knew she was special. We went through medical school. Ups and downs. Thick and thin. Long distance. And now we are here. We often tell each other how crazy it is that what started as neighbors is now almost an "I do". We might think it's crazy, but what is meant to be is meant to be. And we were meant to be.
