September of 2018 we went on our first date, a wedding for Jeremy’s pledge brother. We had just graduated from Mizzou where we shared mutual friends and were active in Greek life, he a Farmhouse and I a Tri Delta. I will never forget the day he asked me to be his wedding date... It was Labor Day weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks, September 2nd to be exact. I was sending off summer with my sorority sisters when I got the message asking to be his plus one. I was pleasantly surprised considering we had only met a few times before. I do have a thing for the bold! Over laughs, drinks and deliberation, we girls decided if anyone was going to a wedding with someone they hardly knew-it would be me! To say we hit it off would be an understatement. Before I knew it, Jeremy had moved to Kansas City and I was meeting my future in-laws at a Mizzou tailgate. We spent the next year long distance when Jeremy’s job relocated him to Austin, TX. There, he lived with his brother, Justin, for the first time since they were kids, an experience he wouldn’t trade for the world. We made sure to see each other at least once per month. Our favorite memories were made over purple margs, Chiefs' wins and long days on the Greenbelt. Summer of 2020, we moved into our first apartment together back in Kansas City. We were so excited to have our party of four together for the first time! Fast forward ten months and we were doing some major adulting. We signed on our first home in Overland Park, KS, the place where Jeremy would propose to me on our anniversary, September 2nd. He pulled it off without a hitch, well, apart from the ring box being upside down! Jeremy deserves major props. Being a know-it-all myself, I can be hard to surprise. When I thought his proposal couldn’t get any better, we walk up to an intimate gathering of friends and family. He got me again! I felt so special and still do. On our next anniversary, we will say "I do". The month of September will always be my favorite. -C
