Paradisus Playa del Carmen is located about 45 minutes South of Cancun. Although Uber and Taxis are available, we recommend setting up a transfer service to and from the airport. There are various companies online that offer these transfer services. We recommend etransfers.com or canadatransfers.com, for your convenience. When making the reservation you may set it up to include a round trip to and from the resort and airport.
Yes, absolutely. Juan and I would encourage all guests to choose from the many companies offering travel/trip insurance online, in case of change of plans and you are unable to attend the wedding. Allianz Travel Insurance is one that we recommend. You can reach out to Shelly Suttles at shellysuttles@yahoo.com for information.
The resort is all-inclusive, however, we recommend brining at least 20-30 USD in one dollar bills. Why you ask? Because resort staff work off tips and they accept USD. If you tip, your pool side margarita will arrive twice as fast. We also recommend bringing a credit card but you should contact your card/bank and make sure the card you brining doesn’t incur foreign transaction fees. Some cards charge an additional 3.5% per transaction. As for using pesos vs. usd, the benefit of bringing pesos is that most vendors in Mexico are going to give you the price in pesos, so, unless you want to convert pesos to dollars quickly (1 USD = 17 Pesos per todays exchange rate), it’s just easier to have some pesos handy to make purchases like taxi rides or buying street food, etc.. You may order pesos through your bank (Chase, BofA, Wells Fargo) so that you arrive with it in country or use your check card to withdraw at an ATM in Mexico. The resort should have an ATM. Just call your bank ahead of travel and let them know your dates in Mexico to avoid them blocking transactions.
Yes, it’s safe to go outside of the resort but we recommend calling at a taxi. Ask the front desk staff and they’ll call a reputable taxi company and note the driver’s name and the license plate of the taxi. Make sure you ask the taxi the price before leaving the resort and before getting in one to return to Paradisus. We recommend heading to Quinta Ave in Playa Del Carmen and it’s just a few blocks from the resort. The street is closed to cars and is more than a mile long and lined with gift shops, bars, coffee shops, tequila tasting bars, souvenir stores, etc. To get back to the resort, you could go for a 15 min walk or take a take ride back in a taxi.
We’re keeping this simple. For men: No jeans, t-shirts, shorts or sandals. Otherwise, jacket or no jacket, tie or no tie, dress shoes or dress sneakers/Vans, it’s up to you. For ladies: You know what to do.
