Josh and I had probably crossed paths a million times since we had attended the same church for so many years and I had been his daughters Sunday school teacher for the last three of those years. Not sure what it was that lead me to catch his attention, but I’m grateful I did. After what he said was “months of catching glances”, Josh decided to use what he knew best to spark conversation. I was notorious for passing out candy at the end of each class and Josh used this as his in, by inquiring about my own candy choice. #almondjoyforthewin Unbeknownst to me, this was the start of clever strategy to test his chances with the Sunday school teacher. Unbeknownst to Josh, I was captivated. It was months before Josh finally used his inquired information to bring me said candy bar, which didn’t go as planned. He hoped for a in person delivery and instead had to task his daughters with the gesture, only to notify me in passing during service. I must inform you all, that in the months following the candy inquire, I was sharing these little connections with my small group ladies. This was to ensure I wasn’t crazy and Hot Dad/ Mr. Almond Joy was not just chatting me up for nothing. Josh thought my response was discourteous when he shared what was waiting for me with his girls, all the while I was trying to figure out what flirting looked like. From this we stayed friends and carried on with our lives, which consisted of social media likes and small conversation from time to time. When I finally decided to be blunt during an amusing conversation involving tattoos, I was too late. Josh had started seeing someone… Things died off here for a while, till one day I was surprised with a snack size bag of delicious chocolate covered coconut cookies. Very Almond Joy of him. He had already learned that food was an effective way to my heart, which is where a plan to acquire more Almond Joy inspired cookies turned into a long evening of great conversation and lots of laughter.

Since then, it has been an amazing journey of discovering each other & building a love rooted in God! As challenges come, we continue to grow through it all & focus on letting God’s love flow through us. Continuing this growth means counting on forever, Josh hoped to secure forever down during his family Michigan trip. I had expected it from all the hints he was dropping before the trip came, but he made sure I was surprised by waiting till the very last day. At this point I didn’t think it was even happening! Cornered on a boat, in the middle of a Michigan Lake, he asked and after the shock of what was happening, I said “Absolutely!”
