How we met

First came our meeting at the Blacksburg Taphouse

Our story can be described as the "perfect timing", both of us had no idea either existed until one random night in Blacksburg Virginia. How we describe our first encounter is special or totally random at the best time. We both planned to spend our evening at the Blacksburg Taphouse, I was working on color guard choreography, while Jay had focused on enjoying a new beer draft. The moment I saw Jay walk into the Taphouse with his Jurassic park button-down, I knew I wanted to start the conversation. Jay's first introduction was a classic dad joke and I could already tell that he was someone special. We spent the night talking about music and the marching arts, rather he was a good sport at watching all my guard videos...I still remember hearing his laughs fill up the taphouse, with my own matching the echo and atmosphere. You can always tell if someone is a keeper by how they hold a conversation, and for us, the conversations never stopped. By the end of the night, we knew we wanted to keep getting to know one another, planning for a second date.

The Proposal

Follow the butterflies, not the spiders..

The proposal wasn't exactly a secret, but it was the most magical moment in time. In July 2021, Jay and I spent my birthday in Florida in Orlando studios. I am one of the biggest harry potter fans, with me being a Hufflepuff, and Jay a Gryffindor. I remember talking with Jay about a possible engagement in the year 2021, but it was a secret as to when. Jay spent hours and multiple days looking over rings, stones, and colors, ultimately going with a beautiful Emerald. The trick is that the ring was being handmade, not arriving before our big trip, however, Jay is a creative/romantic man. I remember on July 31st, it was POURING rain at Orlando Studios, but Jay and I had planned on enjoying every minute of it. We first ate Gyros in the rain, running and laughing with a basket of rained-out fries. Next, we stopped at Hogwarts castle to look at the view in the rain, not knowing what would happen next. Jay told me to wait for him while he went to purchase the ever-expensive butter beers. I could tell he was nervous, but without knowing why. He walked up to me with the biggest grin, holding the special Hogwarts butter beer cup, asking me four words, "Will you marry me"? I gladly took the butter beer and said yes, following the spiders to the rest of Hogwarts, but this time, for life.
