We met at our church’s Young Adult group in October of 2022 and had no idea what was in store for us. Zach was newer to the church, so our paths hadn't crossed before the first meeting. I remember thinking that Zach was cute (and TALL) and he remembers thinking I was "hot."
My sister Heaven offered an open invitation for anyone in our Young Adults group to spend Thanksgiving with our family, in case they didn't have anywhere else to celebrate. Zach is the only person who came- AFTER having a full meal with his parents. My mom says that we spent the evening only talking to each other. We both left that dinner realizing that our connection was something we would like to explore.
I asked Zach to go to the Parade of Lights in 2022, but didn’t think of it as a date, even though everyone around me thought that it was. It was freezing, but Zach loaned me his scarf. He also bought me a light up wand, which is one of my favorite memories! That moment is when I realized he may have had feelings for me. We spent hours together and had great conversations!
We went on a trip to Lake City, CO in May of 2023. We hung out by the lake (which was freezing), walked in the river, and ate at a delicious bakery. Ever since then, we make it a point to check out local + little coffee shops/bakeries anytime we go anywhere.
At the beginning of the summer, my sister (and Maid of Honor) Heaven told me she wanted to do a girls' day and asked when I would be free. My next available weekend was 6 weeks later- so on August 31st, all of my closest friends and I got dressed up and went to the Butterfly Pavilion. We walked around for a little while and eventually came to a bench where Heaven told me to sit for pictures. Next thing I knew, Zach walked up to me and said, "What are you doing here?" while getting down on one knee. I was shocked and didn't cry until I saw my mom crying on video chat. We then spent the rest of the day in Denver where we got food, walked around the Botanical Gardens, and took a bunch of pictures. Zach held onto the secret for a few months and couldn't wait to get it out in the open. He did such a great job!!
