Our first attempt at a first date was thwarted by the Snowzilla storm of January 22, 2016 when Damien decided to get out of the storms harmful way and head north to Canada. Luckily for everyone’s sake, the first date was successfully re-scheduled, to a seasonably warm Saturday evening in DC in February. Like all dates that start on Tinder, Bumble and Hinge, we had better places to be later that night. - just in case the date was going nowhere fast. However we quickly discovered our love for a charcuterie plate and red wine and it seems had a few things in common. We were both transplants from California (via Australia) and had strong opinions about our transportation preferences. It might have been the charcuterie talking but the night progressed quickly. As it turned out Samantha did have somewhere else to be that night, whereas Damien’s somewhere else was his cold lonely apartment. We headed to another bar to meet her friends, things were moving quickly. It’s there, while being serenaded by faux Karaoke we shared our first kiss. Not only were our friends there to witness it, but unbeknown to Samantha, so too was one of her Wunderman co-workers. The jury was undecided whether there’d be another date. Some said just chalk it up to a fun night, others said he might text. And text he did. Although Damien remained just a number for the first 3 months of their courtship before finally securing a slot in her contacts.
