FAQs

Question

When should I plan to arrive and depart Cairo?

Answer

We encourage guests to arrive early and/or extend their stay to fully experience Cairo and everything it has to offer. From the pyramids and historic mosques to beautiful cafés and the Nile, there is so much to explore beyond the wedding celebrations. Arriving at least one day before the first event is recommended to rest and settle in (but feel free to arrive earlier!)

Question

Do I need a visa to enter Egypt?

Answer

Yes. U.S. citizens need a tourist visa to enter Egypt. You can obtain a visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport for $25 USD, or apply in advance online for an e-visa. We recommend applying for the e-visa ahead of time to save time and avoid waiting in lines at the airport.

Question

What is the weather like?

Answer

Late April in Cairo is hot and sunny! Daytime temperatures typically range from 80–87°F (27–30°C), while evenings cool down to around 60–65°F (15–18°C). This makes it a great time to explore the city, with plenty of sunshine and very little rain. Light, breathable clothing is recommended during the day, and bringing a sweater or shawl is helpful for cooler evenings or indoor venues with air conditioning.

Question

What currency is used in Egypt?

Answer

The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). As a general reference, $1 USD is approximately 47 Egyptian Pounds, though exchange rates can fluctuate. Credit cards are accepted at hotels, restaurants, and many shops, but it’s helpful to carry some cash for smaller purchases.

Question

Is tipping in Egypt expected?

Answer

Tipping is customary in Egypt for drivers, hotel staff, and restaurant service. Small tips in Egyptian Pounds are appreciated but not required.

Question

Are there any tips for visiting the pyramids or tourist sites?

Answer

The pyramids and other major sites are incredible to visit, but like many popular tourist destinations around the world, you may encounter vendors offering services, souvenirs, or photo opportunities. These are usually harmless but can be persistent. Helpful tips: - Using a trusted guide or booking through your hotel can make the experience smoother and more informative - It’s perfectly okay to politely say “no, thank you” and continue walking - Avoid accepting unsolicited offers for photos, tours, or camel rides unless you’ve agreed on a price beforehand - Keep small bills in Egyptian Pounds if you plan to purchase souvenirs

Question

Is the tap water safe to drink?

Answer

We recommend drinking bottled water, which is widely available at hotels, restaurants, and stores.
