The (First) Wedding

On December 5, 2020, we were married at an intimate ceremony in the presence of our immediate families with the Groom's Godfather, Rudy Schouten, officiating. With the help of our family, we turned our would-have-been rehearsal dinner into our reception and finished the night sipping cocktails by firelight. It was not the wedding we had planned, but it was more than we could have dreamed! While we already had our perfect wedding day, we cannot wait for the celebration with our extended family and friends!

Our Story

Her Version...

Our story began at our first wedding. What started as an innocent joke among staff at Brookshire Pool ended with Lego cake toppers & goggle bouquets, complete with a diving board ceremony. Truthfully, I had a crush on him every summer thereafter, but timing never seemed to match up. That is, until the summer before Sam's first year of college when we both came to our senses and started dating. Flash forward to November 17, 2012 in my apartment at the University of Dayton to find Sam with a bouquet (of flowers this time) asking me to be his girlfriend (my first "yes!"). It was at Dayton where we fell in love and I still keep a flower from that bouquet, framed in our home together. Our relationship survived long distance, living with our parents, my first year of medical school and everything in between. It was safe to say, I wanted to spend my life with Sam. On September 21, 2019, my sister Kari took me out for a day I believed to be in celebration of her upcoming birthday. As we pulled up to the house after an already wonderful day, I found Sam, standing on our front porch with Benny by his side. It was then I saw my dream becoming reality, bursting into tears as I saw our sisters, Christina and Libby, emerging from the bushes to capture the day I will never forget. Through joyous sobs, I cried out a "Yes!"

Our Story

His Version...

The story begins back in the summer of my junior year of high school. I landed my first job as a lifeguard at Brookshire Pool and I really thought I was hot stuff. I was making a little money, had the summer to hang out with friends and I definitely enjoyed flirting with the one and only Amy deOliveira. Amy was super cute, bubbly, and let’s just say I was excited when I had the same shift. As a “joke,” the lifeguard staff decided to throw us a wedding because her initials, with my last name would spell ANDY, matching our close friend's name. It was all silly, but so memorable, because at least for a night, Amy and I were together. As seems to be the case with most high school friendships, Amy and I went separate ways. Our paths crossed again when it came to my college decision. I went on a visit to the University of Dayton, and I spent the afternoon with Amy. We walked around campus, and thinking back, it was at that moment, walking across the Kennedy Union quad...I knew this was the school for me; Amy was the girl for me. Being the naive 18-year-old in the fall of 2012, I finally found the courage to ask Amy to be my girlfriend. As the dates multiplied, so did the years we spent together. In a blink of an eye, we had been together for over 6 years and through that time we built our lives together. All the while, I knew I was going to marry this woman…it was just a matter of time. On September 21st, 2019, with the help of Amy’s sister Kari, I got Amy out of our house for a full afternoon. My sisters, Christina and Libby, came over to help me deck out the front porch with Amy’s favorite flowers, fall decorations and of course the ring. After 6 and a half years together I was finally able to do the one thing I’ve been waiting for since that fateful walk around UD’s campus. I got down on one knee and asked my best friend to marry me. Through multiple sobs and tears, Amy said “YES!” and the celebration was on!
