Kirsten Geddes

October 18, 2024

Midland, TX

Episode I

In June of 1992, Paul and Amy Matheson welcomed their second son, Sam Matheson, in Louisville, Kentucky. Sam grew up participating in Boy Scouts along with his siblings and was instilled with a love of music and classic movies by his family. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 2020 with a degree in Media Arts. Kirsten Geddes had to be forcibly dragged into the world in May of 1995, becoming the first daughter of Steve and Missy Geddes. After trying out several sports, her dramatic nature led her to the stage where she acted on and off for several years. She graduated in 2018 from UTPB with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Unbeknownst to the two of them at the time, they grew up with many similarities: Kirsten was one of three girls while Sam was one of three boys, both families were homeschooled, and the two shared a love of a lot of similar things from a young age.

Episode II

In February 2021, Sam joined a little news company in West Texas as a producer. On his second day at work, he had a teams meeting with a member of the team who was currently at home. Kirsten walked him through some of the basics of her job as a digital producer and then the two went on their way. After a few months of working early morning hours, Sam was moved to an evening shift and finally got to know the person who was at the desk next to him-Kirsten. Over the course of the next few months, the two begin to grow closer, chatting over YouTube videos, musicals and theater, movies, and just about everything else.

Episode III

On October 13th, 2021, after plenty of talking, flirting, and dancing at a coworker's wedding, Sam asked Kirsten if she wanted to go see the play "Wait Until Dark" at a local community theater. She agreed without hesitation, and on October 16th the two had their first date. Over the next month the two went on a number of other dates, including mini golfing and visiting a museum, until they became official.

Episode IV

As the two celebrated their first anniversary, Sam received a job offer in Phoenix at a local news station. While it was a wonderful opportunity, the two had to go long distance for six months since Kirsten still had time left on her contract at the news station. What could have been a time of hardship was turned into a temporary obstacle thanks to the generosity of family helping Kirsten visit Sam in Phoenix and plenty of virtual date nights featuring Facetime calls, video games and ice cream.

Episode V

In March 2023, Sam was scheduled to come back to Texas for another coworker's wedding (a bit of a full circle moment for the couple). He surprised Kirsten a few days early, which was a wonderful surprise already. Despite being sick and almost ruining the next surprise for herself, Kirsten accompanied Sam to the UTPB duck pond, a place they had been on several dates to in the past. That's when Sam popped the best question Kirsten had ever been asked: "Will you marry me?"

Episode VI

In April 2023, Kirsten finally made the move out to Phoenix, Arizona, where the two have been living ever since. The couple has been planning the wedding from a distance thanks to the assistance of their families. The two are thrilled to be starting the next part of their life together.
