Sam and Jessica initially met all the way back in middle school. They both had crushes on each other at the time, but began their relationship as friends. Fast forward to high school when Sam invited Jessica over to a friend's house for a summer swim. Later that night after Jessica had returned home, Sam texted her and the rest is history!

Almost seven years later, Sam and Jessica were still dating. By this time they had both graduated college, bought their first home together, and it was time to go on a family vacation together with the Schillings. The destination was the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. It was toward the end of their trip, hiking to one of the most beautiful lakes, Emerald Lake, where Sam surprised Jessica. In front of her family and park bystanders Sam got down on one knee and asked Jessica to marry him. She said yes!
