Monterey has some of the most striking coastline and beaches on the California coast. Some places to check out are Lover's Point Park & Beach, the Monterey Bay Aquarium (considered to be one of the best in the world!), shop and stroll down Cannery Row. Whale watching via boat tours is a very popular activity here, with guaranteed humpback sitings. Old Fisherman's Wharf is a good place to get some food, with lots of seafood options and a fun ambiance.
Capitola is a quaint seaside town known for it's brightly colored homes right on the ocean! They have a really nice beach to spend the day at, lots of restaurants and bars, and boutiques for shopping. Zelda's is a solid choice for food/drinks with great views (dinner or lunch), and don't skip Gayle's for pastries and coffee (they have an insane deli too!)
There is so much to do and see in Santa Cruz! Here are some of our top recommendations: - Beach Boardwalk: stroll down the pier and shop for gifts in the local stores (don't forget to get candy from Marini's!) and say hello to all the sea lions hanging out under the pier. They have California's oldest rollercoaster and other fun rides. Our favorite seafood restaurant is at the end of the pier! It's called Stagnaro Bro's – don't miss their clam chowder. - Natural Bridges State Beach - Take surf lessons or check out one of the world's most famous surfing spots (Steamer Lake & Cowell's) - Our favorite food spots: Bookie's (pizza + beer), Taqueria Santa Cruz (Mexican food), Achille's by the Sea (Greek food)
