In 2019, Sam ran for Student Body President at Grand Canyon University, and Lexi and some of her friends offered to help hang up posters for the campaign. The campaign was launched with a worship night on campus, and it was during that worship night that they first met. Sam says that he took one look at Lexi and started asking around if she was single, while sneaking a few looks at her during worship. They had their first date in March of 2019, and the stars aligned. Lexi and her sister/maid of honor Julia had always promised each other that whatever man they ended up with would HAVE to like the movie “Hot Rod”, which has always been their favorite movie. On that very first date, Sam quoted “Hot Rod” to Lexi, and that sealed the deal. Sam also found out that Lexi had the same favorite Jelly Belly flavor AND episode of The Office that first date, which sealed the deal for him. However unconventional those confirmations were, the Lord kept leading the way and blessing the relationship. Sam asked Lexi to marry him in October of 2020, and they plan to live out a marriage full of love and laughter, in pursuit of Jesus and one another.

Sam asked Lexi to marry him on the top of a beautiful, windy mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. Lexi thought they were just taking a few photos with their photographer friend Megan, but after one pose standing back-to-back, Lexi found Sam down on one knee. Waiting at the bottom of the mountain was Lexi's family and all of their closest friends to celebrate, and October 25th, 2020 was officially declared the best day ever.
