We met our junior year of high school in AP U.S. History. Our teacher decided that the new seating chart was going to be by birthdays and compelled the class to work together to seat themselves correctly. Sam made her way over to someone that she had heard say they also had an October birthday. When she got closer, Colton asked her when her birthday was and she told him, "October 13." Colton shouted, "Nice! Birthday buddies," and gave her a high five before sitting down. We slowly got to know each other in class and were eventually paired together for a project. Many texts, several calls, a poem, and 12 yellow roses later, we were set to go to prom together that year. And thus began the adventure.

We went out to dinner for our weekly date night. Colton picked 1816 Modern Kitchen in Corydon and we had a delicious dinner and finished with the most amazing cheesecake that either one of us had ever had (seriously, they gave us like a fourth of the cheesecake and it was covered in an apple topping that was wonderful). When we were finished with dinner, we went for a walk around Corydon square. (At this point, Sam knew Colton had bought her engagement ring, but she was unaware that he had brought it with him.) He showed her where he had purchased the ring, we walked around the square, and eventually came to sit on a bench. We sat and talked for a while, watching the sun, when Colton jokingly said, "This would have been the perfect moment if I would have brought the ring." Sam laughed and told him it was okay, she was sure he had a plan and would propose when he was ready. About five minutes passed and Colton said, "I'm so sorry. I lied." He got up from the bench. "I do have the ring." Slowly getting down to one knee, he popped the question that began this exciting new chapter in our lives.
