Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, Sammy and Danielle are postponing their wedding celebration to July 23rd, 2022 at the same location of Pinecrest in Colorado Springs. For those of you who made any flight or hotel reservations, please remember to cancel them. Once a hotel block is reserved for the weekend of July 23rd, 2022, they will send out details inviting guests to book their rooms. In addition, they will be updating their website as new details are solidified. Sammy and Danielle will still be getting married on June 26th, 2021 in an immediate family-only setting. Sammy and Danielle look forward to asking all of their friends and family to join them on July 23rd, 2022 in Colorado Springs when they can all celebrate together safely and renew their wedding vows.
Danielle and Sammy met as strangers on the Chicago pink line train after separately spending the day at the same music festival. They first started talking to learn what bands the other person saw at the festival and after realizing that they saw the same ones, they began asking questions to get to know one another. When Sammy told Danielle that he was a headhunter, she had no idea what that was since she was in college and realized that he was a person in the real world. And when Danielle told Sammy that she studied social justice, he had no idea what that was and made a note to look it up when he got home. As they approached Sammy’s train stop, he quickly gave her his business card and asked her to call him. Although he quickly regretted not getting her number, it was this very move that made their interaction different from previous train encounters, and ultimately led to their first date. A week later, Danielle texted Sammy (with some encouragement from her mom), and a week after that, they went out for drinks. When Sammy told Danielle about a Phish festival he went to, she questioned where he went fishing for a whole weekend. And when Danielle told Sammy about her dietary restrictions, he questioned what she could eat that he could eat and they ended up just ordering sweet potato fries. Despite their differences, the two made a lot of surprising connections as they snacked on their dairy-free gluten-free tomato-free and meat-free meal. By the next morning they had their next two dates planned, and their relationship took off. Danielle was graduating in nine months and was wanting to move somewhere with more sunshine. Sammy had been thinking about moving to Denver for several years so when the conversation came up, they decided that they would love to move to Colorado together and continue adventuring through life at 5,280 feet above sea level.
Five years and many BBQs later (Danielle had successfully been converted to a meat eater), the couple boarded a plane for their third trip to Playa Del Carmen together. As soon as they got to the hotel that Sammy booked specifically for its advertised balcony overlooking the Caribbean Sea, he realized that their balcony did not, in fact, overlook the sea. When Sammy suggested talking to management about their street view, Danielle told him it was not necessary, but he insisted. Ten minutes later they were given access to another room with a beautiful balcony. Despite Danielle’s traveling hunger, they went out to take a picture commemorating the start of their vacation. Little did Danielle know that Sammy had pressed record on their phone to take a video of his entire proposal. Sammy pointed off into the distance with a “what is that?” to distract Danielle. She turned back to face Sammy after realizing that there was nothing of note on the horizon and he was on one knee with his Aunt Alice’s 100+-year-old ring in hand. Danielle laughed, cried, and of course said yes! They celebrated by eating and drinking their way through 5th Avenue. The next morning, they woke up early to begin their week of celebrating with 3 days of scuba diving before joining Danielle’s family for Thanksgiving. Danielle was sure not to wear the ring in the water for fear of losing it to the sea.
