Sammie and Alex had unknowingly crossed paths before meeting one night in the spring of 2021 at their favorite Israeli restaurant. Sammie, who lived above 12 Chairs Café at the time, popped down to take out her trash and meet her friend Vick for a Sunday night drink. Alex had the same Sunday night plan (minus taking out the trash). The pair sat together with their friends Vick and Sammy at their usual table. The pair bonded over their Michigan connection – with Sammie having grown up there and attending MSU, and Alex having gone to the University of Michigan (the state’s second-best university, according to some). Jokes aside, Sammie and Alex have set aside their football rivalry and learned to root for each other’s alma maters. The rest, as they say, is history.
Given their shared love of travel and dining out, Alex knew the best way to surprise Sammie with a proposal was to pop the question on an otherwise mundane Sunday evening at home. Alex asked Sammie’s sister to keep her busy on FaceTime while he snuck flowers and champagne into the house. They went up to their balcony, and after exchanging a funny heart-to-heart, Alex proposed and Sammie said yes. They celebrated over Chinese takeout, a Sunday night tradition.
